    just to make something clear, i still have my dad, and i'm only in eighth grade.
    I have great memories about riding in the car with my dad and singing to this song. i remember going to silver mountain, and hearing this song, and crying as soon as we walked in the gate and the ticket keeper gave my grandma a weird look.
    but i have to disagree with the other comments. i don't think that anyone can sing this song with the power to reach people with the lyrics and make them feel emotions that are so real better than Luther Vandross.
    he is a very skilled singer. no one can take his place and i think that someone may come to a second, but the best version of this song is the origional voice.

    I have loved this song since the first time i heard of it. That was quite a long time ago. Two weeks ago, I started to hear it again on the radio and everytime, I would always say to my friends" I like that song". Little did I know that hearing it again would hold some significance of what is about to come. I lost my father a week after that. Died of cardiac arrest.
    Until now I havent gotten over the pain of losing him.As the song states, I would love to dance with my father again and I would give everything for a chance to have him with us again. I will always miss him...

It was the saddest dance of the night because in her letter (the seniors always write letters to their parents and they are read by the mc before the dance) she explained how her daddy had died a few years ago and she dedicated her final dance to him.     Dancing with my father was hilarious. He tried to show me all the Mexican Nortenos and Cumbias. I finally got them, but I would give and/or do anything to dance with my dad again.     My brother came home one night from work after being on the road and herd this song for the first time and when he did, it sent shivers down his back to the point his hair stood on end because he never met his father but thought of my mother and brother. my mom married at the age of 18 to my brothers father and he passed away at the age of 20 due to a heart attack. my mom was pregnant with my 2nd brother at the time. every night my mother cried and my brother felt lost. and he was only 2 years old at the time. so i found this song for my mom cause she wanted to hear it and every time she listens to it, she remembers and crys. i dont think she still hasn't let go even to this day and my brothers now are 24 and 26. i've never experienced the loss of a father but i have experienced it through my family from what they say about it. im only 22 years old and the only way that i can relate to not having a dad is because since my dad started dating my step mom and remarried i have been left out. we never communicate hardly anymore and i feel that i dont have a dad. but my brothers and i are all greatful for our step dad who has been there for us through the biggest percentage of our lives. i feel extreemly bad for what my mom has gone through and i sit there and cry every time she talks about her one true love (her first husband)

    There is some sad news out of the Vandross camp. Luther died today at 1:47 PM ET at JFK Medical Center in Edison, NJ. After suffering a debilitating stroke in April 2003, he never was able to recover and passed today at the age of 54. This song has and will always be my favorite song by Luther.     I am getting married in Sept.05. My father passed away 3 years ago and this is the hardest thing I will ever have to plan without him. I always thought my wedding day would be about me and my mom. I now know it would of been about me and my Dad. It's been soooo hard doing this without him. This song helps me knowing it will be the song I dance to with my Dads bestfriend. I know its what he would want and would pick for me if he could.

  • an awesome song

    My aunt made a little dvd for every one for chirstmas and this song was on it. My gradfather pasted away about 30 years ago. So this was a great present for my grandmother and all the kids. It brings tears to my eyes thinking about what he may have been like. It a great song.

  • Last Dance With My Father

    This song makes me cry because I'm reminding of the last dance my father and I shared. I looked at the picture when my father and I were dance at a father and daugther dance. I was going to dance with him on this song before my father passed. Now I guess i'll have to dance with my stepfather instead. But I wouldn't be as happy as I would with my real dad.

    My father passed away a few months before this song came out. When I heard it I felt that Luther Vandross actually read my mind. I'm getting married this year and would love to dance with my father, but this song will not be played at my wedding. I love this song but if you listen to the words its sad. This is definatley not a good song for a father dauhgter dance Sorry.

    i looooooove this song so much because of the message it brings... but i don't think i can ever play this song to my wedding without bawling!... though it's an impossibility that i won't include this, this is actually # 1 on my list... just pray for me that i won't ruin my make up!
