  • Wedding March lyrics cont

    A translation of it is-
    Faithfully guided, draw near
to where the blessing of love shall preserve you!
Triumphant courage, the reward of love,
joins you in faith as the happiest of couples!
    Champion of virtue, proceed!
    Jewel of youth, proceed!
Flee now the splendour of the wedding feast,
may the delights of the heart be yours!
This sweet-smelling room, decked for love,
now takes you in, away from the splendour.
    Faithfully guided, draw now near
to where the blessing of love shall preserve you!
    Triumphant courage, love so pure,
joins you in faith as the happiest of couples!

  • Wedding March lyrics

The Bridal Chorus is from Lohengrin and it does have lyrics written by Wagner. For the person who said that the reason this song is inappropriate for weddings because the wedding was between two transvestites, they were wrong. (I know this since I'm a music major who paid attention in class.) The couple who marries in the opera were Elsa (female) and Lohengrin (male).
The reason the song is thought to be inappropriate is because it was actually sung after the wedding right before when Lohengrin and Elsa were going to go consumate their marriage. It is also thought to be inappropriate due to the failure of Elsa and Lohengrin's marriage. (They had trust issues) The actual song used upon entering the church is Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral. (In my opinion, Elsa's Procession is a thousand times prettier, and one of my favorite pieces of Romantic music. I highly recommend giving it a listen.)
Anyways, the orriginal German lyrics are as follows-
    Treulich geführt ziehet dahin,
wo euch der Segen der Liebe bewahr'!
    Siegreicher Mut, Minnegewinn
eint euch in Treue zum seligsten Paar.
    Streiter der Tugend, schreite voran!
    Zierde der Jugend, schreite voran!
Rauschen des Festes seid nun entronnen,
Wonne des Herzens sei euch gewonnen!
    Duftender Raum, zur Liebe geschmückt,
nehm' euch nun auf, dem Glanze entrückt.
    Treulich geführt ziehet nun ein,
wo euch der Segen der Liebe bewahr'!
    Siegreicher Mut, Minne so rein
eint euch in Treue zum seligsten Paar.

  • Lyrics Versions

There are three versions I heard:

    Here comes the bride
    All dressed in white
    Here comes the groom
    Skinny as a broom
    Here comes the usher
    The old toilet flusher

    Here comes the bride
    Big, fat, and wide

    Here comes the bride
    All dressed in white
    Where is the groom?
Down on Decatur St. [in Atlanta]
    Sweeping out the room

  • Wedding March

    Faithful and true
    We lead ye forth
    Where love triumphant
    Shall crown ye with joy
    Star of renown
    Flower of the earth
    Blessed be ye both
    Far from all life's annoy

    Champion victorious
    Go thou before
    Maid bright and glorious
    Go thou before

    Here comes the bride
    Dressed all in white
    Radiant and lovely she
    Shines in his sight

    Gently she glides
    Graceful as a dove
    Meeting her bridegroom
    Her eyes full of love

    Long have they waited
    Long have the planned
    Life stands before them
    Holding their hands
    Asking God’s blessings
    As they begin life
    with new meaning
    Life shared as one

    Enter God’s Union
    Bow before his throne
    Promise each other
    To have and to hold

  • Original lyrics

"Elsa's Procession from the Cathedral" (Lohengrin)

    Guided in faith, enter within,
where may the blessing of love attend you!
Victorious valour and the prize of love
unite you in trust as a blessed pair.
    Champion of virtue, advance!
    Flower of youth, advance!
Let the sound of revelry be shut out
and your heart's bliss be attained!
Now, removed from sight, take possession
Of this perfumed chamber, decked for love.
Guided in faith, now enter within,
where may the blessing of love attend you!
    Victorious valour and pure love
unite you in trust as a blessed pair.

(As the two trains meet in the middle of the stage Elsa is led to Lohengrin)

    EIGHT LADIES
As God has given you His blessing
    we too wish you happiness.
    Long remember this hour
in the course of love's Joy!

(The King embraces and blesses Lohengrin and Elsa. The pages give the signal to leave. The processions re-form and during the following pass by the newly married pair so that the men leave the chamber on the right, the ladies on the left.)

    BRIDAL SONG
    Guided in faith, stay within,
where may the blessing of love attend you!
    Victorlous valour, love and happiness
unite you in trust as a blessed pair.
    Champion of virtue, here remain!
    Flower of youth, here remain!
Let the sound of revelry be shut out
and your heart's bliss be attained!
Now, removed from sight, take possession
of this perfumed chamber, decked for love.

  • Where is the Groom???

"Here comes the bride all dressed in white,
Where is the Groom he is in the bathroom,
    Why is he there,
He lost his underwear!!!" That is what I heard. I don't know the real thing.

  • Here comes the bride

The way I heard it when I was a kid, 60+ years ago, was:
Here comes the bride, big fat and wide, see how she wobbles from side to side. Here comes the groom skinny
    as a broom....
I don't remember the rest of it.

  • The real original lyrics

A few have mentioned that the Bridal Chorus is from Richard Wagner's opera "Lohengrin" - they are right. And yes, since it's actually a chorus (check out the title!), there are indeed ORIGINAL words. Of course they're in German. You can research this yourself if you want, but here they are:
    Treulich geführt, ziehet dahin,
Wo euch der Segen der Liebe bewahr!
    Siegreicher Mut, Minnegewinn,
eint euch in Treue zum seligsten Paar.

    Streiter der Tugend, schreite voran!
    Zierde der Jugend, schreite voran!
Rauschen des Festes seid nun entronnen,
Wonne des Herzens sei euch gewonnen!
    Duftender Raum, zur Liebe geschmückt,
nehm euch nun auf, dem Glanze entrückt.

(etc., etc - this is just the first two verses)

Some churches don't allow this piece for wedding processionals when/if they have a rule against using any music from the theater or from films. If this rule exists in your church, they'll also disallow Mendelssohn's "Wedding March" (usually a recessional) as it was composed as incidental music for the play "A Midsummer Night's Dream."

I am both a wedding musician and a bride at the moment. My wedding is next month, and we will be having a choir of our musical friends (many of whom also play weddings regularly) sing Wagner's Bridal Chorus in the original German 4-part choral arrangement.

  • Okay This is a Bettr One

Here comes the bride dressed all in light
Radiant and lovely she shines in his sight
Gently she glides graceful as a dove
Meeting her bridegroom her eyes full of love.

Love have they waited long have they planned
Life goes before them opening her hand.

Asking god's blessing as they begin
Life with new meaning, life shared as one
Entering God's union, bowed before His throne
Promise each other to have and to hold.

  • Truth behind Wagner's Bridal Chorus

Warning: this may spoil the song for you!

The Bridal Chorus comes from Wagner's opera Lohengrin. The song may be inappropriately used for formal weddings because the wedding in this opera is between two transvestites. In fact the song doesn't come until the end of the wedding, while people are following the two to the bridal bed. I didn't use it in my wedding for this reason. Glad I was a music major in college!

  • IT stinks

Who really wants the people at your wedding to think, "here comes the bride, big fat and wide"?

There are no lyrics to the song. It's not a song...it has no words. It's a piece of music...not meant to be sung.

    It's done.

  • Wedding March Lyrics

Laura is right. These are the lyrics. The words are sang at many weddings and the the song is titled "Bridle Chorus". Faithful and true, we lead ye forth, where love triumphant shall crown you with joy!
Star of renown, flow’r of the earth, blest be ye both far from all life’s annoy.
Champion victorious go thou before! Maid bright and glorious, go thou before!
Mirth’s noisy revel ye’ve forsaken, tender delights for you now awaken!
Fragrant abode enshrine ye in bliss, splendor and state in joy yet dismiss.
Faithful and true, we lead ye forth, where love triumphant shall crown you with joy!
Star of renown, flow’r of the earth, blest be ye both far from all life’s annoy.

If you are interested in knowing the words and perhaps why this piece is less than appropriate for a wedding search the story and libretto for Wagner's Lohengrin.

Are you kidding me??!! You thought they were beautiful?? Someone must've changed the ORIGINAL lyrics for your wedding, C.J. Bryan, the ORIGINAL words are just like you said with the groom in the saloon. THIS SONG IS LITERALLY ABOUT A WHORE! Double-check me if you will, but this is the reason why MOST priests, preachers and pastors refuse to let it play in church.

  • Wedding March lyrics

The song does not traditionally have lyrics. If it did, I'm sure Wagner would have written them in German, not English. Some modern words were added very recently and it has become known as "Here Comes The Bride"

  • Geez....

"Here comes the bride" is not a tune, it's a march- from Wagner's Lohengrin. As far as I recall- marches don't usually have words, and if this one did, they'd be in German! Yikes. Research?...

  • WEDDING MARCH LYRICS

Apparently, there ARE words to Wagner's Wedding March... I just watched "It Happened One Night" on TCM (Clark Gable, Claudette Colbert) and a boy's choir was singing it as she walked down the aisle at her formal wedding. I came to this site to try to find the words.... anybody out there able to help?

    Hi,

Of course, it has words. It was sung at my wedding and it was beautiful.

  • Wedding March lyrics

Yes, I believe the wedding march does have lyrics becuase I once heard someone sing "Here comes the bride, all dressed in white" to that tune, although I'm not certain of the rest. There was also something in there that went "Where is the groom, down in the saloon", but the girl who sang it couldn't recall all the words, and I'm not certain she was serious about the second part. There's no problem, I guess, although since I thought you may have had it in your archives, well, at least you know as much of it as I do. Thanks, although you haven't helped me any. I'll let you know if I find it on the web. Bye.
